Federal lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore, Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye has charged the Federal Government to give the necessary support to the private sector operators in order to prevent job loses due to the effects of coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement made available by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Oluyemi Fasipe the lawmaker urged workers in his constituency and the country at large to be focused on higher productivity and lean towards achieving multiple income streams.

Adefisoye appreciated the resilience and sacrifices of Nigerian workers in his workers day message released on Friday. He described Nigerian workers as essential partners that have been making invaluable contributions to national growth and development.

He however singled out for praise the health workers that have been at the front line of the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic. Also, Adefisoye was full of praises for Nigerian gallant soldiers that have been battling insurgents in a bid to protect the territorial integrity of the country and to also guarantee peace.

“Nigerian workers will always earn my admiration and respect in view of their invaluable contributions to national growth and development. However, our front line health workers and gallant soldiers some of whom have paid the supreme price in the course of serving the nation truly deserve our accolades. But, this is not to say that certain categories of workers are more important than the rest. Collectively, the Nigerian workforce are key partners in the progress of the Nigerian project”.

Meanwhile, Adefisoye has encouraged some categories of Nigerian workers to begin to think outside the box in the face of dwindling revenue from oil. He enjoined workers with special talents to think of how their talents could be commercialized without reducing their production in their respective places of work.

“It is not hidden that there has been a steady crash in the price of crude oil which is the major source of foreign earnings for Nigeria. On the basis of this, I will encourage some of our workers to start thinking of diversifying their trades and to also take advantage of their talents to achieve multiple income sources. A single income source could no longer be depended on by workers with extended responsibilities. I will, therefore, encourage workers to start thinking of ways to augment their earning by taking advantage of their free time”, advised Adefisoye.
