The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, yesterday  backed Ondo State government’s fight against COVID-19 by donating two locally-made motorised modular fumigators to the state government.

Ogunwusi, who also donated a drone sprinkler, disclosed that the gesture was to help the state government in its fight against coronavirus.

The foremost traditional ruler who explained that the fumigators were locally fabricated and are environmentally-friendly, said every leader must be pragmatic to find a solution to the current pandemic.

According to him, “Why are you a king if you cannot cater for your people? In the olden days , king always be at the war front leading the way. I am just leading by example and to show to everybody that COVID-19 is real.

“But the positive side of COVID-19 is why we are here. We have to look for solution locally. We are all fun to run our leaders down. What are you doing to contribute your own quota? What we are doing is very important and important than food.”

Ogunwusi said he embarked on the project as a way of contributing his own quota as leader, to the development of his subjects.

He said, “Within the little resource we have we are using it to cater for our people.  We must use what we have to get what we want. Every leader must be pragmatic.

“We must come together and support the leaders. Two fumigators to the state . And the drone will work for a particular period of time.”

Receiving the gesture, the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, appreciated the monarch for the gesture.

Akeredolu said,”You are investing in Ondo State. We know that for sure. God has blessed us with you . We appreciate you sir.

‘’We know how serious this pandemic is. The death has risen. We visited the Sharsha market in Akure yesterday, we saw how our people are behaving.  No social distancing, no face mask. We hope nothing breaks out from there. People should know that the pandemic is serious matter. Please don’t joke with it.”
