Ondo ocean incursion project not by FG – Akeredolu
Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has said the Federal Government is not involved in the efforts to contain the surging ocean in Ayetoro community, Ilaje Local Government Area.
The projected was awarded after many residents were rendered homeless by the surging ocean.
Speaking with our correspondent on Monday, Akeredolu said the project was an Ondo State project in collaboration with the World Bank and never had the involvement of the Federal Government.
According to him, the state government will pay its counterparts fund to the World Bank on the project.
Akeredolu said, “ The Federal Government has no involvement in it, it is a World Bank project, and we going to pay back the money. The Federal Government has no part in it; it is being done by the World Bank and the Ondo State Government.
The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project Coordinator in the state, Marcus Adewodun, said the state government had approved the first phase of the project.
He appealed to Ayetoro residents to cooperate with the contractor that would be handling the project.
Adewodun said, “ The company’s representatives will start living with them during the course of their work in the area.”
