Ondo 2020: Anxiety as 10 APC aspirants jostle for governorship ticket

Ahead of the Ondo state gubernatorial elections, governorship aspirants within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state have shown interest in vying for the exalted office.

The nation’s ruling party has scheduled Monday, July 20, to conduct the primary election to determine which gladiator will represent APC for the October 10 governorship election.

The second term bid for incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu may have hit a brick wall. The governor who is seeking the party’s ticket is facing opposition from other aspirants within the party as they plan to wrestle the power from him.

Efforts are being made to wrestle the ticket from Akeredolu as party members under the auspices of the ‘Unity Forum’ which comprises of opposition groups within the APC announced Olusola Oke (SAN) as its consensus candidate ahead of the primary.

However, Oke’s announcement as the consensus candidate appears to be tearing the group apart as some of the members have kicked against it.

Oke, a former member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected to APC to contest the last governorship primaries where he came third. He then joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and contested on the platform but lost to Akeredolu.

Other aspirants jostling for APC’s golden ticket include Dr. Segun Abraham, Barr. Olanrewaju Kazeem, Engr Ife Oyedele, Barr. Bukola Adetula, Prince Dapo Adelegan, Olayide Adelami, Akintunde Awodeyi, Barr. Jumoke Anifowose and Prince Jimmy Odimayo.
