Chief of Army Staff on Operations Visit to 3 Brigade Kano, Inaugurates Soldiers’ Accommodation in the barracks, Promises Improved Welfare

 

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, was on operations visit to 3 Brigade Kano on Saturday, the 27th of June 2020 where he assessed the operational readiness of the Brigade. He used the opportunity of the visit to commission blocks of multiple flats for soldiers accommodation in 3 Brigade, Bukavu Barracks, Kano.

The new accommodation comprises of two newly constructed blocks of 24 flats each and five renovated blocks of 12 flats each.

While commissioning the project, Gen Buratai said the building of new accommodation and refurbishment of others was in line with his vision to ensure improved welfare for all officers and soldiers, as well as their families.

He said the project was one of the series of ongoing renovation and completed works in many barracks across the country, adding that it was part of “infrastructural upliftment” of barracks.

According to him – “We are happy to be here today to commission this accommodation, knowing full well that for any soldier in the field to be effective, his welfare must be properly taken care of.

“This is one of the programmes that we have for our officers and men who are in the battle fronts, sacrificing their time; and some of them paying the supreme sacrifice in order for us to live in peace.
“So, we must take care of their families, we must take care of their welfare so that when they return home, they would find very good accommodation.

He commended the Commander of the Brigade for supervising and ensuring that the accommodation was built to standard.

Buratai assured the personnel that all ongoing projects across the barracks would be fully executed and completed in good time.

He urged the beneficiaries of the new apartments to ensure proper and adequate care of all the facilities therein.

Addressing members of the press, the COAS said the Nigerian Army has commenced major reorganization of its operations and had put in place new strategies towards ending the menace of insecurity in the North West and the country in
general.

He disclosed that the army had introduced Operation SAHEL SANITY, a renewed strategy to deal with the challenge of banditry in Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara States and other areas affected by the menace.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj Gen Usman Mohammed, said the inauguration of the accommodation was a reflection of the Chief of Army Staff’s barracks transformation programme across the country.
The GOC commended the COAS for extending the transformation programme/project to 3 Brigade and 1 Division Nigerian Army.

 

Gen Buratai also inspected several ongoing projects within the Bukavu barracks, including the refurbished operational vehicles.
Thereafter, he visited 73 Battalion in Janguza Barracks, Kano, where he was briefed on the operational readiness of the Battalion and inspected completed and ongoing projects.
