‘7 Boko Haram insurgents killed’ as troops repel attack on Damasak
Seven Boko Haram insurgents have been killed by troops of the Nigerian army in Damasak, Mobbar local government area of Borno state, sources have told TheCable.
The insurgents were said to have moved into the town on Thursday in about 13 gun trucks, and attempted an attack on the military base.
The soldiers, however, foiled their plan and the insurgents fled.
A five-year-old was reportedly killed in the exchange of gunfire.
“As the criminals were overwhelmed, they were seen retreating and shooting recklessly in all directions and also shot at two residents killing a child and injuring a young man in the process who is now receiving treatment in the hospital. The child who was hit also died in the hospital,” a source said.
Another military source in Damasak said there were no casualties recorded on the part of the troops.
According to him, four AK 47 rifles and one car were captured by the military.
Sagir Musa, army spokesperson was not available to comment on the incident.
The military in the past months have continued to launch offensives against the insurgents.
