Fresh crisis in Ondo APC as governorship aspirant slams Yahaya Bello
Ahead of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, one of the aspirants, Jimi Odimayo, has slammed the chairman of the primary election committee, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state.
The Nation reports that Odimayo spoke on Thursday, July 16, through his campaign organisation.
Also, another aspirant who asked not to be named, reportedly said that many of them (the aspirants) were not happy with the choice of Governor Bello as the chairman of the committee.
He said the leadership of the Unity Forum, a group in the party, would meet before Sunday, July 19, to harmonise their interests.
Though 12 aspirants have been cleared to participate in the poll, the aspirant hinted that they may cut down the number so as to put up a strong front.
Meanwhile, a report by Daily Trust indicates that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu seems to be the favoured candidate of the presidency ahead of the APC governorship primary election in Ondo state.
Aside from the presidency’s support, Akeredolu is said to enjoy the support of his colleagues, in the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), chaired by the Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu.
It would be recalled that Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti had led Akeredolu on a reconciliation mission to Bola Tinubu in May.
However, the mission was said to have been futile as they were unable to secure the commitment of the APC national leader to support his support.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the party, Rotimi Fashakin, said it was not true that Tinubu did not support Akeredolu.
He stated that what the APC leader said was that he would support any aspirant that emerged as the party’s candidate.
“He has invested a lot in APC. He is going to play his role as the National Leader of the party to ensure the party remains a progressive party,” Fashakin added.
