Ondo 2020: NURTW, ondo state chapter, attacks PDP members

UNPROVOKED ATTACKS ON PDP MEMBERS BY AGENTS OF THE ONDO STATE CHAPTER OF NURTW

Our attention has been drawn to the physical attacks on law abiding citizens of the state by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers allegedly under the instruction of its State Chairman Comrade Adebo (aka Idajo). We have seen increased number of attacks on law abiding citizens wearing insignia and promotional items of the gubernatorial candidate of our party, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede SAN. Some have been beaten, maimed and stripped of their personal property by agents of the NURTW chairman in a bid to mitigate the campaign of the PDP and cause public panic.

This very unfortunate actions by the NURTW Chairman shows the terrible and negative influence of the incumbent governor on the moral fabric of our society. For a transport union with membership cutting across all religious, social, cultural spheres of the society, to descend so low as to promote internal conflict in a peaceful state like ours, shows leadership failure on the part of its promoters.

We hereby call the attention of the Commissioner of Police in Ondo state to these attacks which underlines the leadership deficiencies and intolerance of the APC led government under Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu. While we have asked our supporters to exercise maximum restraint for now, we will not condone any further attacks if government fails to uphold it’s constitutional responsibility of maintaining law and order.

Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu who has displayed very highly undemocratic tendencies and intolerance should note that Ondo state has always been a centre of peace in the Southwest and as law abiding citizens, we shall do everything necessary to maintain that. However, no individual has the monopoly of violence and we will not sit back and watch our people being harassed and beating for seeking to support their chosen candidate.

The violence currently ongoing in Owo the Governors hometown wherein lives and properties have been destroyed shows the danger that the inordinate ambition of Mr. Akeredolu poses to the peace and tranquility we have always enjoyed in our dear state.

Thank you

Zadok Akintoye
Director of Media and Publicity, PDP
