NDDC Probe: I haven’t been invited by EFCC – Akpabio

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, says he had not been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

He made this known through his Media Aide, Mr. Anietie Ekong, on Wednesday in Abuja. Ekong said that the anti-graft agency had not sent an invitation letter to his principal concerning the financial dealings of the commission.

Ekong said: “My boss is yet to be invited. I don’t think the EFCC letter expressly stated that the minister is being investigated. It didn’t state that.”

Recall that the EFCC had launched an investigation into the alleged involvement of the Minister and the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei, in financial mismanagement of the commission’s fund amounting to N81.5 billion.

This follows a petition sent to the anti-graft agency by a group, Foundation for True Freedom and Good Governance, led by a human rights activist, Mr. Deji Adeyanju, to investigate how N81.8 billion was spent by the commission.
