Southern Kaduna: ‘Special Forces deployment was a right move’

The Coalition for a better Nigeria on Thursday welcomed the Federal Government’s recent response to security challenges in Southern Kaduna.

It said the deployment of the Air Force’s Special Forces to back the military’s operations in the area was the right move

In a statement, the group urged President Muhammadu Buhari to boost the soldiers and air men’s human and material resources in the battle to restore normalcy in conflict zones in parts of Northern Nigeria.

It said: “We are glad to note that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) deployed 32 additional Special Forces in Southern Kaduna with a view to supporting Operation Safe Haven being currently executed by the military to restore normalcy to the area.

“This was done at a period when the serious bombardment and arrests of insurgents, hoodlums and other criminals were ongoing in Malaila area of Sokoto State, Katsina State, Yobe State, Lake Chad, and the suspected attackers of the Imo State Governor’s convoy were equally tracked down.

“While we thank the President Buhari led Federal Government for its quick response, we will also suggest that it gives the Nigerian military an urgent and appropriate boost in terms of increasing human and material resources for it to overrun these dear devil insurgents and criminals across the country as soon as possible.”

The group also welcomed the government’s inauguration of an Inter-Ministerial Technical Committee Expert to work out the modalities of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

It expressed hope that the committee’s work would, despite the global economic downturn precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, provide the urgently needed response to the “alarming and increasing rate of youth unemployment over the decades.”

According to it, “This is the best gift from Mr President for the millions of Nigerian youths during this period of celebration of the International Youth Day.”

The coalition further praised Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the planned unveiling of the Oshodi multi-level terminals “and the successful inauguration of Oshodi-Abule Egba 13.5 km BRT Corridor to cushion the effects of public transportation in the densely populated state.”
