The Nigerian Army troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have described as false the claim that they were involved in illicit fishing and farming activities in Baga town.

The claim was described by Nigerian Army as not only absolutely false and baseless, but a campaign of calumny against the Army which should be discountenanced by the general public. The army has also urged the general public to always verify allegations before forming opinions on sensitive subject of such magnitude.

The Investigative Panel on the issue released a statement and audio message on Thursday which read,

“This is to alert the general public on a recent false allegation against the troops of Operation Lafia Dole in the North East region of the Country. The allegation that troops are involved in illicit farming and fishing activities in Baga town is absolutely false, thus a campaign of calumny. It is baseless and unfounded and therefore should be discountenanced.

“The Nigerian Army urges citizens to always verify such allegations before forming opinions on sensitive subject of this magnitude bearing in mind that such claims could have implications on the national polity”.
