Ondo moves to stop planned workers strike

As civil servants in Ondo State are calling on the government to hold a meeting with them over alleged unpaid salaries and deductions,  the state government has agreed to meet organised labour unions in the state on Monday (today).

The unions last week issued an eight-day ultimatum to the government to meet with them to resolve the issue of the workers’ accumulated salaries and deductions, failing which they threatened to embark on an industrial action.

In the letter to the government, the organised labour unions, including the Nigerian Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress  and the Joint Negotiating Council,  called on the government to urgently convene a meeting to discuss how to settle the outstanding salaries and allowances.

However, the Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaiye, while speaking with journalists on Saturday confirmed that the government’s representatives would meet with the leadership of the unions on Monday.

He expressed assurance that both parties would find a lasting solution to the issues raised at the meeting.
