British driver Lewis Hamilton will miss this weekend’s Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain after testing positive for coronavirus, his team announced Tuesday. “The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team regrets to announce that Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be unable to take part in this weekend’s Sakhir GP,” the team said in a statement.

“Lewis was tested three times last week and returned a negative result each time, the last of which was on Sunday afternoon at the Bahrain International Circuit as part of the standard race weekend testing programme,” it added. Hamilton’s isolation and treatment process were started immediately. On Nov. 15, he secured the 2020 F1 title in the Turkish Grand Prix with a first-place finish at Intercity Istanbul Park. Hamilton has claimed 11 victories during the 2020 season.
