Killing of Ifon monarch a taboo, say Ondo monarchs
Monarchs in Ondo State have said last week’s killing of the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi, by yet to be identified gunmen, was a taboo in Yoruba land.
The traditional rulers, who spoke through the Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas, His Majesty, Oba Dr. Frederick Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugbo, described the murder of Oba Adeusi as an unfortunate development, which people of good conscience in the state must condemn.
Oba Akinruntan said efforts must be put in place to ensure that the sacred status of Yoruba royal fathers is not demystified by insecurity.
The Olugbo of Ugbo urged Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to use the machinery of the state to stem insecurity.
He urged the governor to ensure provision of security aides for traditional rulers, to prevent them from being targets of bandits and kidnappers.
Oba Akinruntan prayed God to give the late monarch’s wives, children and the palace chiefs the fortitude to bear the painful and irreparable loss.
The late Oba Adeusi was shot last Thursday by suspected kidnappers around Elegbeka axis, along Owo-1Ifon Highway.
He was confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo where he was rushed to.
