Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum on Monday signed the 2021 appropriation bill into law after it was passed by the Borno State House of Assembly.

The approved budget, presented to the governor by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan was, however, increased from N208 billion to N248 billion.

According to the Speaker, the increment was aimed at catering for industrial projects by the Borno Plastic Industry and the Maiduguri International Hotel, among others.

Zulum had proposed N135.1 billion for capital projects which represented 65 per cent of the proposed budget and N72 billion for recurrent expenditure.

During the ceremony, Zulum urged all ministries, agencies and departments to comply with the provisions of 2021 appropriation law.

He also directed his cabinet members to accelerate activities in their ministries to enable the people to derive maximum benefit in the fiscal year.

He thanked the leadership and members of the Borno State House of Assembly for their co-operation with the executive arm for the speedy passage of the bill into law.

According to him, his administration will sustain its priorities on security, education, health care, agriculture, provision of potable water as well as reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons and refugees this year.

Lawan explained that the increase in the budget from N208 billion to N248 billion was to cater for the industrial growth that will increase job opportunities in the state.
