Arsenal have came to an agreement in principle with Mesut Özil to terminate his contract with immediate effect, per The Athletic.
That is according to a report from David Ornstein, who states that it now brings the 32-year-old’s exit even closer.
After reaching that agreement with the club, Özil is expected to travel to Turkey this weekend ahead of completing his long-awaited move to Fenerbahçe.
The Germany international was still due to receive in the region of £7 million in wages between now and the end of June, when his contract expired.
However, the parties have now reached a deal in principle that will see that contract ripped up early, allowing Özil to leave on a free.
The story goes on to state that Fenerbahçe have already agreed personal terms with the playmaker’s camp.
Özil hasn’t featured for the Gunners since March of last year.
