Abeokuta tanker explosion patient dies

One of the three tanker explosion patients receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Abeokuta, is dead.

It will be recalled that 33,000 litres of oil tanker exploded, on Monday, at Kuto area of Abeokuta, leading to loss of lives and valuables.

The deceased, a 42-year-old man, whose identity was not disclosed in a statement by the Head, Public Relations of the tertiary hospital, Segun Orisajo, was brought to the hospital with 96 per cent flame burn injury.

The statement said that the patient was admitted alongside with other two patients while immediate intravenous fluid resuscitation was administered on them in accordance with the established protocols for the management of burns.

He was observed to be having difficulty in passing urine and was scheduled for dialysis.

However, the patient died in the early hours of Thursday, before dialysis could be carried out on him.

The Medical Director of FMC, Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu, regretted the loss of the patient and sympathised with his family over the unfortunate development.

While assuring that the two other patients are in stable conditions and responding to treatment.
