Combined Forces Foil Attack on Imo Police Area Command

 

A combined team of Nigerian Army and the the police on Thursday, May 6, 2021 foiled an attack on the police Area Command in Imo State by members of IPOB and ESN terrorists.

The terror gang of IPOB and ESN were said to have mounted seven vehicles and stormed Orlu town on Thursday, 6 May 2021 with the obvious intention to launch an attack on the compound housing the Area Command and a police station in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to a press release made available by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima on Friday, May 7, 2021, the terrorists were gallantly resisted by vigilant police personnel at the Area Command until a reinforcement team of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force arrived the scene. The attackers were however, completely obliterated following the arrival of the reinforcement team.

Meanwhile, the assailants were said to have come from a Forest Camp in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State where they mobilised and planned the failed attack. Moreso, the terrorists were also stated to have been on the radar of the Joint Technical Intelligence Team.

At the end of the ensued gun fire, eleven members of IPOB and ESN terror gang were killed while the remaining terrorists escaped on foot with fatal injuries. Items recovered from the terror elements include four AK47, one G3 and one pump action rifle. Other items recovered include a Berretta pistol, charms and assorted ammunitions.
Also, there was no casualty on the side of the security forces while
all the seven operational vehicles used for the attack were demobilised.

Moreover, law abiding citizens in the area have been advised to be on a look out for strange persons with gunshot injuries and report same to the nearest security agency for the safety of their communities.

Moreso, Nigerian Army has restated commitment to a united Nigeria that is safe for all law abiding citizens and also assured of continuous support for the police in internal security operations.
