Presidency confirms attempted raid on Gambari’s house
The Presidency yesterday confirmed two attempts to burgle the Presidential Villa homes of the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari and the State House Administrative Officer (AO), Abubakar Maikano.
Presidential spokesman Mallam Garba Shehu, who confirmed the botched attempts, said some criminally-minded individuals attempted to force their way into Prof Gambari’s residence on Sunday night.
The attempt on the AO’s apartment was on Thursday, last week, Shehu said.
Confirming the attempts in a couple of tweets yesterday, Shehu, who is Senior Special Assistant to the President of Information and Publicity, said there’s was indeed an unsuccessful attempt by unknown persons to burgle Gambari’s house, which is located within the Villa area, a short distance away from the State House, Abuja.
According to the tweets, placed on his verified Twitter handle, @GarShehu, he said: “The Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has confirmed that there ‘was a foolish attempt’ to burgle his residence at 3:00am this morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful.
“Professor Gambari, whose house is on a street next to the Villa has assured that there is nothing to worry about from the incident.”
In another tweet, the Presidential spokesman confirmed that there was an earlier attempt, last week Thursday, by a suspected burglar to break into the home of the Administrative Officer of the State House, Abdullahi Maikano, who stays on same street with Professor Gambari.
When reached on phone Shehu ascertained the authenticity of the report.
According to the tweet, the suspect, whose attempt to break into Maikano’s house was captured by was captured in a CCTV footage, is currently at large and being traded by the Police.
“The police, in a related development is searching for a suspected burglar who unsuccessfully attempted to break into the house of Maikano Abdullahi on Thursday, last week. Maikano lives on the same street with the Chief of Staff, close to the Villa,” the tweet said.
