Profiling @OlumbeAkinkugbe, 2023 Aspirant Ondo East and West House of Representatives Seat
Olumbe Akinkugbe was born in Ibadan in the ’70s to Chief Taiwo & Mrs Lapo Akinkugbe (nee Awosika). Both parents come from respectable and influential Ondo families, who significantly impacted the community. His paternal grandfather, High Chief Odofin David Akinbobola Akinkugbe, was the first druggist (pharmacist) in Ondo town, while his maternal grandmother, Chief Mrs Adeyoola Awosika was the Iyaloja of the Ondo kingdom.
Olumbe attended the International School Ibadan for his secondary education. Additionally, he obtained a master’s in marketing in the United Kingdom. Olumbe led a remarkable career in the ICT sector, where he held executive positions in CISCO (rose to be Country Manager in Liberia) and Dell Technologies.
In 2017, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu appointed Olumbe as Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Government on Information and Communication Technology. After excelling in that role, the Governor later appointed him as the Chairman of the Ondo State Information Technology Agency (SITA).ńde
As Chairman of SITA, Olumbe established the first tripartite tech hub in Africa, providing a facility where tech entrepreneurs have access to workstations, meetings rooms, and a conducive environment to ideate, and create products and services to solve local problems.
He also established a digital village with ICT labs in specially built containers in each senatorial district to deepen access to digital skills by providing 24-hour power and reliable internet. Over 2000 people from primary school to older adults have acquired skills in coding, UI/UX design, digital marketing, and basic computer knowledge.
Olumbe successfully led a team to deliver what was adjudged by SAP as the best public sector implementation of its ERP solution in West Africa. He also built a metro network connecting all MDA’s an automated Ondo state government’s payroll, HR, and financial management systems.
