Assembly approves Sanwo-Olu’s request to appoint seven aides

Lagos State House of Assembly has approved Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s request to approve seven special advisers (cabinet rank) to become members of the State Executive Council (SEC).

This followed a letter to the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, which said: “In line with the recent resignations that have been submitted by members of the State Executive Council, who wish to pursue higher political aspirations and who, pursuant to extant laws on the subject matter, resigned from their positions, it has become exigent to appoint seven special advisers to join the SEC. Therefore, I request the approval of the House for the clearance of appointment of seven special advisers into the SEC.”

Deputy Speaker Wasiu Eshinlokun- Sanni, who presided over the plenary, said: “Pursuant to Section 196 (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the House hereby approves the governor’s request of clearance of appointment of seven special advisers into the Lagos State Executive Council.”

The deputy speaker thereafter directed the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, to send a letter to the governor that his request had been granted.

The discussion, organised by the Economic Intelligence Unit, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, was held at the CBD, Alausa, Ikeja.

Economic Planning and Budget Commissioner Mr. Samuel Egube said the discussion was aimed at previewing contributions received from private and public perspective contributors.

He said as the population in Lagos was changing, so also was the demographic nature of the state, and urged economic stakeholders and experts to proffer solution and wherewithal that should be adopted to adapt to the challenges.

Prof. Femi Shaibu from the University of Lagos advised Lagosians to desist from using negative index, noting that they should dwell on the prosperity index to sell Lagos to the outside world and investors.

Prof. Lanre Olaniyan of the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan, dwelt on economic outlook and development updates.

He said Lagos should not toy with its data base.

The Director, Lagos Economic Intelligent Unit, Mrs. Ojo Olayinka, appealed to stakeholders to proffer  hints on how the develop plan proposal could be achieved.
