ISWAP orders residents to leave communities or be killed
The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have threatened to kill residents of communities in the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno if they do not leave before Saturday.
One of the residents, who pleaded anonymity and had already fled the area to Maiduguri three hours after receiving the eviction threat, revealed this to Channels Television.
According to the fleeing resident, the terrorists called the locals together on Thursday morning and gave them a warning.
He said that upon receiving the threats, residents began vacating the communities and moving to Kross Kauwa and Monguno, which the Babagana Zulum-led government has already resettled.
The Kukawa LGA, surrounded by Lake Chad and has the presence of the Nigerian Army and the navy, is known for fishing, farming and other agricultural value chain activities, which the terrorists exploit for their own survival and financial support.
When contacted, the public relations officer of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth, told Peoples Gazette, “Let me get back to you.”
Upon the next call, the PPRO picked up but did not respond to the questions asked before switching off his phone.
