Teenage barber in court for food, groceries theft


The police on Monday arraigned an 18-year-old barber, Moses Gabriel, before the Omi-Adio Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing food items and provisions worth N92,000.

Master Gabriel, whose address was not disclosed, is facing charges bordering on break-in, entering and stealing.

The prosecuting counsel, Insp Ken Brasana, said the defendant had, on July 18 at about 11:30 p.m., broken in and entered a shop of one Tomi Bakare with intent to steal.

Mr Brasana said the defendant stole food items and provisions (groceries) valued at N92,000, property of Ms Bakare of the Kuole area of Odo-Ona, Ibadan.

He said the matter was reported at the Apata Divisional Police Station, Apata, Ibadan, on July 19 by Ms Bakare, the complainant.

Mr Brasana said the offences are contrary to section 383 and punishable under sections 390 (9) and 413 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The magistrate, Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

Ms Atanda adjourned the matter till August 13 for a hearing.

Section 413 stipulates 14 years’ imprisonment for the defendant if he is found guilty.
