A Delta State High Court sitting in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, has sentenced two individuals, Bright Ossai and Mr. Izagwu Obodo, to death by hanging for armed robbery and murder, respectively.

Bright Ossai was convicted of robbing Mr. Hycent Abandy at gunpoint, stealing his Denstar motorcycle along Owessi Street in Kwale.

The victim, Hycent, raised an alarm during the robbery, leading to the immediate arrest of Ossai by the police, who arrived promptly at the scene. The police also recovered the firearm used in the crime and retrieved another stolen motorcycle that Ossai had previously taken. That motorcycle had been sold to Ebele Pius.

During the trial, two witnesses testified against Ossai, while he defended himself without calling any witnesses. Presiding over the case, Justice F. O. Enenmo sentenced Ossai to death by hanging for his crimes. Additionally, Mr. Ebele Pius was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment with hard labor or the option of a ₦500 million fine for his involvement in receiving the stolen motorcycle.

In a separate case (No. HCK/13C/2021), another defendant, Mr. Izagwu Obodo, was found guilty of the murder of Mr. Nonso Dibia, who was shot dead on August 21, 2021. The prosecution, led by C.O. Onoberhie-Oberuomo, called three witnesses and presented various exhibits to support their case, while the defendant testified on his behalf but did not present any witnesses.

Justice F. O. Enenmo found Izagwu Obodo guilty of murder and sentenced him to death by hanging.
