At Arogbofa’s book launch, Aiyedatiwa describes the Afenifere leader as inspiration to younger generation

The governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has described the immediate past Secretary General of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa, as a man who has inspired a new generation of intellectuals, through his literary works.

The governor gave the eulogy in Akure on Wednesday at the launch of a book titled, ‘Tales and Voices’, written by the Ondo state chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, the governor said the book is a celebration of life and legacy of Bashorun Arogbofa.

He celebrated the Afenifere leader for his impactful influence on the younger generation, through his exemplary leadership.

The governor commended ANA for their efforts in contributing to the intellectual development of the society.

According to him, “By putting Baba’s life and thoughts on paper, you have helped in building knowledge and mentoring the younger generation. I commend your industry, determination, intellectual acumen and sacrifices in putting this book together”

In his address, chairman of the occasion, Prof. Bayo Aborisade, remarked that Basorun Arogbofa has contributed profoundly to literature as his work has been an integral part of the reading list for secondary schools in the state, describing it as a testament to their (books) educational values.

Reviewing the book, Prof Busuyi Mekusi, said Basorun Arogbofa’s legacies is not in the number of books he has written but in the countless lives he has touched.

He walked the audience through the 229-page book that was edited by Sola Owonibi and Sunday Afolayan, acknowledging the notable contributions of several writers.

“The book, ‘Tales and voices’ contains significant things about Arogbofa, where the mentally-restless writer is described as supportive, as honorable, as meek, as selfless, as rugged, as sacrificial, as tolerant, as inspirational, as great, as a galant person, as someone who is an excellent writer who succumbs rather than suffocates people” Mekusi outlined.
