22 suspects arrested, ₦10m worth of stolen items recovered in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended 22 individuals suspected of theft and vandalism, and has recovered various stolen items.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq, it was revealed that on August 24, 2024, at around 5:15 PM, three suspects—Hamza Lawal, Safiyanu Usman, and Mariya Adamu—were arrested for house trespass and theft in GRA Katsina.

They were accused of stealing items worth over ₦10 million from a residence in Modoji Quarters. The stolen goods included a freezer, three plasma TVs, an HP computer, dining tables, chairs, drawers, mattresses, home theaters, inverters, air conditioners, and a generator.

ASP Sadiq noted that the suspects were apprehended following a report at the GRA Katsina divisional police headquarters. The suspects admitted to the crime and named additional accomplices.

“We are intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects as the investigation progresses,” ASP Sadiq said.

In another operation on September 4, around 1 PM, the police arrested a twelve-man gang involved in vandalizing armored electric cables in Katsina metropolis. The suspects were caught in Sha’iskawa Quarters with bundles of suspected vandalized cables, iron rods, and other tools. They confessed to the crime and identified seven other accomplices who remain at large. They also implicated Aminu Manya-Manya as the receiver of their stolen goods.

Additionally, on September 5, at approximately 2 AM, six individuals were arrested by the Sabon Garin Katsina Divisional Police Headquarters for vandalizing the Kofar Marusa drainage. Police recovered 51 iron rods from the suspects, who admitted to the vandalism.

The Command has pledged to continue its efforts to capture all suspects involved and ensure they face justice.
