Lagos: Gunmen invade community, kill 20yr old

Over the weekend, Okokomaiko in the Ojo area of Lagos State was struck by violence as four armed men carried out a deadly attack, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old man.

According to reports, the assailants announced their presence with a series of gunshots before targeting a residence on Abeokuta Street. The victim attempted to flee but was pursued by the gunmen. They eventually caught up with him and inflicted multiple gunshot wounds to his head, stomach, and leg, leading to his death.

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, noting that it occurred around 11:10 pm on Friday, September 6, 2024. He added that by 11:30 pm, concerned members of the public had reported seeing the four unidentified gunmen chasing the young man and shooting him multiple times. The assailants fled the scene and their whereabouts remain unknown.

“Upon receiving the information, a team of anti-crime personnel went to the scene and met one Vivian, who happened to be the mother of the deceased. She identified him as 20 years old and stated that he lived with her. The corpse was evacuated and deposited at IDH Mortuary, Yaba, Lagos. Investigation is in progress.

“Efforts are being made to trace the fleeing suspects for possible arrest and prosecution, while the case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further and discreet investigation.”
