Court jails Ondo motorcyclist for raping wife’s 17-year-old sister
A 30-year-old motorcyclist, Michael Olorunfemi, has been arrested for allegedly raping his 17-year-old sister-in-law in a bushy area of Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
Recall allnews.ng reported that in the United Kingdom, Tosin Dada and Solomon Adebiyi, two Nigerians, were found guilty of several counts of rape at Northampton Crown Court.
Olorunfemi, a father of four, reportedly committed the crime in August 2024, around 10 p.m., along Irese Road in the Onigaari area of Akure.
According to police sources, the suspect has admitted to the crime. He reportedly confessed that the victim had asked him to take her to her boyfriend’s house.
However, along the way, he stopped near a bush and assaulted her. Olorunfemi also promised to give the girl money, which he failed to do, prompting her to report the incident to her mother, leading to his arrest.
The police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed that the suspect has been charged to court and is currently being held at Olokuta Prison.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, stated that the offence occurred in August 2024 at approximately 10 p.m. and involved the unlawful sexual assault of the 17-year-old victim, whose identity is being protected.
The charges, according to Oniyere, are in violation of Sections 357 and 358 of the Ondo State Criminal Code Law, 2006.
Inspector Oniyere also requested that the court remand Olorunfemi in custody pending further advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP,.
Chief Magistrate Kolawole Aro has ordered that the defendant remain in Olokuta Prison, with the case file transferred to the DPP for legal review. The case has been adjourned until October 31, 2024, for further proceedings.
