Kano governor promises to build new houses for flood victims

The Kano government has announced plans to build houses for persons displaced by flooding.

It said this in a statement on Thursday by Sunusi Bataure, a media aide to Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf.

Mr Kabir-Yusuf stated this during the weekly State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

The governor said the gesture would mitigate the effects of flooding in the state. He said providing houses would significantly assist flood victims in securing suitable shelter for their families.

According to him, the Kano government is collaborating with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to provide food and other essential items to the flood victims.

The governor said the government would also distribute chairs and desks to 220,000 basic and post-basic students under the programme’s first phase.

While expressing delight over the smooth resumption of schools for the 2024/2025 academic session, Mr Kabir-Yusuf assured that his administration would rehabilitate all school infrastructure in Kano.

“In line with the components of the declaration of emergency on education in the state, the government will distribute free uniforms to all Primary I pupils,” Mr Kabir-Yusuf said.

The governor tasked stakeholders to work together towards achieving the state’s educational goals.
