Kano Hisbah bans sports betting, couples-to-be from tinted cars

Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a comprehensive ban on all forms of sports betting as part of its renewed efforts to combat immorality in the state.

According to DailyTrust, this was disclosed by the board’s Deputy Commander-General, Dr. Mujaheed Aminuddeen, during a media briefing.

The Hisbah has relaunched its ‘operation flush out immorality,’ with plans to take action against individuals or groups disrupting social order.

“We are determined to restore discipline and sanity in Kano State,” Dr. Aminuddeen emphasized. “Our operatives will soon clamp down on those bent on violating these regulations.”

In addition to the ban on sports betting, landlords renting apartments to unknown individuals will also face sanctions due to concerns over residential properties being used as motels and lodges.

“We will hold landlords accountable for renting out properties to people whose activities are questionable. This is part of our effort to curb immoral practices,” Dr. Aminuddeen said.

The Hisbah also introduced stricter regulations around courtship, prohibiting couples from sitting in tinted vehicles at night.

“No prospective couples will be allowed to court in tinted vehicles, especially during nighttime, as it raises concerns over improper conduct,” he noted.

Female street beggars staying out late at night will be arrested as well, given the prohibition on street begging.

Dr. Aminuddeen further expressed concern over the rising cases of prostitution among young girls, warning that any woman found in a tricycle after 10 p.m. would be apprehended.

“These rules are not negotiable, and violators will face strict penalties,” he warned, urging parents to monitor their children’s behavior closely. “Parents must ensure that their children, particularly girls, adhere to the rules to avoid disciplinary action.”

The Hisbah reiterated its commitment to safeguarding social and moral order in the state.
