Open Letter: ZL Global Alliance’s Sudden Sympathy; A Hypocritical Stance on Ondo Flooding

Dear Dr. Abiola Bashorun, FCICN
CEO, ZL Global Alliance Ltd,

Your recent statement on the preventable Ondo flooding tragedy, while seemingly sympathetic, raises glaring concerns about the height of hypocrisy. For four years, as the consultant responsible for waste management and environmental issues in Ondo State, you had the authority and resources to mitigate or prevent such a disaster. Yet, your voice, seemingly dormant throughout your tenure, has only gained efficiency after your services were terminated by the current government a no-nonsense administration that disengaged you for reasons you are fully aware of.

Why were proactive steps not taken when you had the power to implement solutions? Ondo residents trusted you and your company, ZL Global Alliance, with the responsibility to protect their environment. Instead, you write from a distance, evading accountability for a situation that could have been avoided had you utilized the resources at your disposal more effectively.

Flooding is not an inevitable tragedy but often the result of ignored warnings and unheeded advice. This is where your expertise should have counted most. Instead, you now publicly sympathize, having done little when given the authority to act. Leadership, both in business and governance, is defined by action, not post-service lamentations. Your sudden concern after being disengaged makes it appear more like self-preservation rather than genuine empathy for the people of Ondo.

The Ondo State Government, under the decisive leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has taken bold steps to ensure that avoidable tragedies like these are minimized. Your absence from this mission is no accident; it is the result of your inefficiency and failure to prioritize the well-being of the people.

This open letter is a reminder that real leadership shows itself in actions, not empty post-disengagement commentaries.

Yours sincerely,

Yòmí Oyékàn
