Ogun police nab man wanted for robbery, rape of TASUED female students
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old suspect over alleged armed robbery and rape.
A statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, on Monday in Abeokuta said the suspect was apprehended at Ijaguh, Ijebu Ode, on Sunday.
Ms Odutola said the suspect, who had been on the command’s wanted list for some time, was apprehended by a police team from the Igbeba division following a tip-off.
”The suspect was spotted in Ijagun attempting to blend with the crowd, but his true identity was verified through intelligence sources.
”The police were promptly informed, and he was arrested and identified as the main suspect in a reported incident of armed robbery and rape that took place on July 21.
”During this crime, he and his accomplices unlawfully entered a female hostel, Royal Villa, at the Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun.
”They stole valuable educational items such as laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash from female students and also committed sexual assault before fleeing the scene,” she said.
Ms Odutola said a preliminary investigation had commenced while the suspect had been taken into custody at the Igbeba police station for interrogation.
She said the suspect would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
Ms Odutola further said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had tasked detectives to work assiduously to arrest the suspect’s accomplices.
Mr Alamutu appealed to residents of Ijagun to provide credible information to help the police arrest the other fleeing criminals.
