Trader slumps after losing N2.3m in Abuja market

A lady trader, simply identified as Rukaiyyat, slumped after losing N2.3 million in cash at the Abaji main market in the Federal Capital Territory.

Witness Yakubu Musa stated that the incident occurred on Friday at around 9:45 a.m. when she was purchasing farm goods at the market.

He said that when the Auchi-born woman was busy measuring groundnuts and melon into bags, her money inside one of the sacks vanished out of nowhere.

He further revealed that the woman could not find the sack containing her money after weighing the grains within many sacks and heading to pay the traders.

“She actually kept the money, which according to her was N2.3 million, cash inside a sack and as she was measuring melon and groundnut, the sack containing the money suddenly got missing,” he said.

The eyewitness told reporters that the woman slumped after she found out that the sack she kept her money had gone missing, adding that it took the intervention of some traders in the market to revive her.

“In fact, she burst into tears and fell on the ground shouting that the missing money was a loan she collected in Edo State to do business,” he said.

Meanwhile on the same day, another woman at the market burst into tears when her half bag of maize got stolen by yet to be identified hoodlums operating inside the market.

The woman was said to have rushed to sympathize with the woman trader who lost N2.3 million at the market when the yet to be identified hoodlums carted away her half bag of maize.

SP Adeh Josephine, the spokesperson for the FCT police command has yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filling this report.
