Kebbi: Bandits lay siege to community, kills resident, kidnap district head, others
Following a bandit raid on Kanya, a hamlet in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, at least eight people—including district chief Alhaji Isah Daya—have been taken hostage.
Sheriff Almu was also killed in the raid, which took place on Sunday at midnight; three other people were wounded by gunshots and are undergoing medical attention.
The incident occurred barely two days after bandits kidnapped a person from Matseri village in Bunza and assassinated Alhaji Bako Bala, the APC chairman of Suru Local Government Area, in Takalafiya.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, stating, “A combined security team, led by the police, has launched a manhunt to rescue the abducted individuals and apprehend the assailants.”
Kebbi State Governor Nasiru Idris expressed concern over the abduction. “The state government, in collaboration with security agencies, is doing everything possible to secure their release,” he said.
He also stated that the state government has provided critical logistics to support the fight against banditry in the affected areas.
