Two men in court over alleged theft of 20 tubers of yam
Two men – Ige Balogun and Sunday Ojo, on Tuesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 20 tubers of yam.
The defendants – Balogun, 20; and Ojo, 24, of no fixed addresses, are facing a charge of stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole told the court that the defendants committed the offence on October 12 at about 11:30a.m in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Mr Bamikole said that the defendants stole 20 tubers of yam from a farm belonging to the complainant, Balogun Ali.
He said that defendants were caught by guards and handed over to the police.
Mr Bamikole said the offence contravened Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defence counsel, Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant his clients bail, promising that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5,000 each with one surety in like sum.
Ajibade adjourned the case until November 21 for mention.
