The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has charged Special Marshals to embrace digital technology for enhanced and effective contribution in order to ensure safer roads for all Nigerians.

Mr Shehu Mohammed, FRSC Corps Marshal, made the charge at the 2024 Special Marshal’s Zonal Conference held on Wednesday in Akure.

The theme of the conference was: “Leveraging Technology For Improved Traffic Management And Enforcement: The FRSC’s Digitalised Approach.”

Mohammed, represented by Mrs Rosemary Alo, Oyo FRSC Sector Commander, said that the corps had recently launched FRSC mobile application which was designed to provide real-time information and services to road users and officers.

The corps marshal said that digital technology would enhance the productivity and service delivery of the FRSC, if it was adopted and utilised.

According to him, digital transformation is crucial because FRSC seeks to manage traffic more effectively and enforce laws more efficiently.

“I like to remind us all that the future of road safety in Nigeria is digital, and FRSC is committed to leading this transformation.

“With your support and dedication, we will continue to make significant strides in improving traffic management and enforcement across the country.

“As we continue to embrace these technological advancements, the role of our special marshals becomes increasingly vital.

“Accordingly, you are the image maker of FRSC in your communities, and by utilising these digital tools, you will be able to carry out your duties with greater efficiency and impact.

“So, let us embrace these innovations and work together to ensure that our roads are safer for all,” he said.

In his speech, Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, represented by his Special Adviser on Transport, Mr Olugbenga Omole, applauded FRSC for adoption of technology to save lives on the road.

“If the FRSC can be adopting a digitalised approach to traffic management and enforcement, it is a significant leap towards creating safer roads in our dear state and the nation at large.

“By leveraging on digital technology, their capabilities can be enhanced, operations streamlined and it can as well save lives.

“Let us work together to build a future where our roads are safer, our traffic systems are smarter and our state thrives,” he said.

Mr Muyiwa Oyediji, Special Marshal Zonal Coordinator in-charge of Osun, Ondo and Oyo, said that the adoption of a digital approach and technology would ensure their duties were carried out effectively and efficiently.

“Our public enlightenment programmes would be enhanced and operational reports and traffic statistics made automatic towards a better coordination to enhance our common goal of reducing road accidents and fatalities,” he said.

Highlights of the event was the decoration of General Overseer of Agape Church, Bishop Felix Adejumo as a Honorary Special Marshal.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr Abayomi Oladipo, the representative of customs, correction services, NSCDC, and immigration were present at the event”
