Police on Friday arraigned one 43-year-old Olawale Taiwo before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, over an alleged N500,000 meter fraud.

Taiwo, whose address was not provided, was charged with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Toyin Ibrahim told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2023, at the College Crescent area, Ibadan.

Mr Ibrahim said the defendant obtained the money from Ademola Jayeola, under the pretext of procuring prepaid meters for him, but failed to do so.

He said the defendant, instead converted the money to his personal use and committed offences contrary to Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 and one reliable surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until January 7, 2025, for hearing.
