Best Men’s Player: Lookman Faces Messi, Ronaldo, Arsenal and Chelsea Stars for Globe Soccer Award
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 Globe Soccer Award following a standout year for both his club and country.
The Atalanta forward is among the nominees for the Best Men’s Player category, competing with some of football’s biggest stars, including Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
Other major contenders for the award include Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi and Al Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo, two legends of the game.
Lookman played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s first UEFA Europa League title, scoring a hat-trick to help them defeat Bayer Leverkusen in the final at Aviva Stadium in May.
The 27-year-old has also been the most prolific forward in Italy’s Serie A this year, contributing 17 goals and 11 assists, the highest goal involvement in the league.
In addition to his club success, Lookman has been a standout performer for Nigeria. He scored six goals this year, including a crucial three at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, helping the Super Eagles reach the final. He also leads Nigeria’s scoring chart in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers with two goals.
Lookman was previously nominated for the Ballon d’Or, finishing 14th in the voting, and is also a contender for the African Men’s Footballer of the Year award.
Other prominent nominees for the Globe Soccer Best Men’s Player award include Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Rodrigo, and Phil Foden, along with Emiliano Martínez, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo, and several others from top clubs across Europe.
In total, the list of nominees includes footballing elites like Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Toni Kroos, Robert Lewandowski, and Harry Kane, among others.
