Ondo guber: APC takes lead in 15 LGs as PDP cries foul

Ondo State’s governorship election results, announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), show incumbent Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Lucky Ayedatiwa in the lead across 13 local government areas.

The collation of results, overseen by the state’s Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi—who also serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja—began early Sunday at 12:10 a.m.

Currently, Ayedatiwa has won in all 15 declared local government areas, including Idanre LGA, the home area of PDP’s deputy governorship candidate, Mr. Festus Akingbaso. In Ifedore LGA, the APC captured 14,157 votes, while the PDP managed 5,897. Ondo West LGA also saw a decisive APC victory with 20,755 votes against the PDP’s 6,387.

The APC’s lead extended into Akoko South East LGA, where it secured 12,140 votes to PDP’s 2,692, and Akoko North West, with APC gaining 25,010 votes to PDP’s 5,502. In Ondo East LGA, APC collected 8,163 votes, while PDP received 2,843. Similarly, APC maintained a strong lead in Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo LGA with 16,600 votes compared to PDP’s 4,442. In Idanre LGA, APC narrowly topped PDP with 9,114 votes to 8,940.

A brief controversy occurred in Idanre when a PDP agent alleged no voting took place in Ofosun Oniseri and claimed ballot snatching at Alade, requesting that these votes be removed from the total count.

Other local government areas also showed strong APC performance: in Irele, APC garnered 17,117 votes to PDP’s 6,601; in Akoko South West, APC achieved 29,700 votes compared to PDP’s 5,517; and in Owo LGA, APC dominated with 31,914 votes against PDP’s 4,740. In Okitipupa, the APC recorded 26,811 votes, while the PDP had 10,233 and the Labour Party 27.

In Akure North, Governor Ayedatiwa received 14,451 votes, far ahead of the PDP’s 5,787 and the Labour Party’s 238. Akoko North-East saw another wide margin, with APC amassing 25,657 votes to PDP’s 5,072, while the Labour Party gained only 14 votes.
