BREAKING: Heavy Security as Yahaya Bello Arrives FCT High Court
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja is witnessing heightened security as former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello faces arraignment today.
Heavily armed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have taken up positions around the court premises, with all access points secured to maintain order and ensure smooth proceedings.
Bello, dressed in a white Babanriga and appearing confident, entered the courtroom amidst chants of “Saaki” from his supporters and political associates.
On Tuesday, the former governor voluntarily reported to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, accompanied by three of his lawyers, after being declared wanted by the agency in April 2024.
The case centers on alleged N110 billion fraud charges filed by the EFCC. The commission had previously filed 19 counts of money laundering charges against Bello and his nephews, Ali Bello, Dauda Suliman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, relating to over N80 billion in alleged financial crimes.
Despite filing the charges earlier, the EFCC has faced delays in bringing Bello to court for arraignment. His appearance today marks a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings.
