Ex-Gov Mimiko emerges as best Master’s graduate at UNIMED
Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has been recognized as the best Master’s student for the 2024 academic session at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.
The announcement was made during the institution’s sixth convocation ceremony on Thursday. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, revealed that a total of 634 students graduated, comprising 539 undergraduates and 95 postgraduate students.
Highlighting the academic achievements of the graduating class, Prof. Fatusi stated, “Among our undergraduates, 34 earned first-class honors, 223 achieved second-class upper degrees, 145 obtained second-class lower degrees, 9 graduated with third-class honors, and 127 received unclassified degrees.”
He further elaborated that the unclassified degrees included 41 medical doctors, 23 dental surgeons, and 64 physiotherapists.
On the postgraduate front, the university conferred 36 postgraduate diplomas, 19 Master of Public Health degrees, 38 MSc degrees, 2 MPhil degrees, and 1 PhD.
Prof. Fatusi lauded UNIMED’s strides over the past decade, emphasizing its contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare and education sectors. “In just 10 years, UNIMED has produced three cohorts of medical doctors, dentists, and physiotherapists, four cohorts of nurses, two cohorts of medical laboratory scientists, and six cohorts of graduates in various health sciences. This is a milestone achievement in the nation’s history,” he remarked.
Dr. Mimiko, who completed a Master’s program in Health Law and Policy, was honored with the prestigious “Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Prize” for his exceptional performance, cementing his reputation as a lifelong learner and a role model for academic excellence.
