Security Agencies on High Alert as Terrorists Use Wall Clocks for Bombings in Nigeria

Security operatives in Nigeria are on high alert following reports that terrorists are now using wall clocks as timers for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). This tactic, aimed at maximizing destruction, has been linked to a recent attack on the Shiroro/Kaduna transmission power network, which caused widespread blackouts across Northern Nigeria.

According to sources who spoke to New Telegraph anonymously, terrorists are targeting critical government infrastructure to disrupt essential services and cause significant socio-economic damage.

A senior security official explained the emerging threat, stating, “Terrorists have resorted to using wall clocks to detonate IEDs because the method can evade detection. Their focus is on destroying critical infrastructure to inflict severe harm.”

In response, Nigeria’s military and security agencies have intensified efforts to combat the use of IEDs. Specialized training programs are being conducted to equip personnel with advanced skills for detecting and neutralizing explosives. These programs involve operatives from the military, intelligence, and law enforcement sectors, with an emphasis on adapting to the evolving tactics of terrorists.

The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), is coordinating efforts to address this growing threat. Counter-IED drills and regular assessments are being conducted to ensure first responders and bomb technicians are well-prepared.

Despite the challenges, security agencies remain optimistic. “Efforts are ongoing, and terrorists are being systematically neutralized. The resolve of the state remains strong, and the days of these criminals testing our strength are numbered,” a source stated.

Intensified security operations have already resulted in the elimination of several terrorist commanders and fighters, signaling progress in the fight against insurgency. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces to ensure safety and stability.
