Police Arrest 27-Year-Old Suspected Burglar
A 27-year-old man, identified as David Adediji, has been arrested for allegedly breaking into the home of a female resident in the Okorowepo community. The suspect reportedly entered the house through a window after damaging the iron security bars, assaulted the victim with an iron rod, and stole valuables.
The spokesperson for the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday. She revealed that the suspect is notorious for using iron tools to break into homes and commit theft.
According to the police, the suspect carted away a Techno Spark smartphone worth over ₦150,000, cash totaling ₦52,000, and inflicted injuries on the victim’s back and leg during his escape attempt.
Incident Reported and Arrest Made
The victim reported the burglary to the police on January 1, 2025, at about 7:00 PM, narrating that the incident occurred on the night of December 31, 2024. Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of the Idiroko Division promptly visited the crime scene and initiated an investigation.
“Police detectives recovered items used in the crime, including an iron rod and a plank,” Odutola stated. “The suspect, David Adediji, was apprehended shortly after and confessed to the crime during interrogation.”
Ongoing Investigation
Preliminary investigations have begun, and the police are working to gather more evidence to build a strong case against the suspect. Odutola assured the public that the suspect would face prosecution in due course.
This arrest comes as part of the police’s efforts to address burglary and related crimes in the area, ensuring the safety and security of residents.
