Four killed in Kebbi as Lakurawa terrorists attack construction site

A week after the killing of two police officers, members of the Lakurawa group have struck again, claiming four lives in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack reportedly occurred at a construction site where workers were installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service.

According to local sources, three of the victims were identified as staff of the telecommunication company Airtel, while another victim’s identity remains unknown.

However, conflicting accounts emerged, with some locals asserting that the deceased were immigration personnel.

Speaking to journalists, a staff member of Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, where the bodies were taken, claimed the victims were immigration staff.

In contrast, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kebbi State, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that four people died in the attack, including one resident and three Airtel employees.

He stated that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, and the Kebbi State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, coordinated the evacuation of the bodies to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital.

SP Abubakar further disclosed that additional tactical teams had been deployed to the area to tackle the insurgents.

The Commissioner of Police also met with residents, urging them to support security agencies with timely information to enhance their operations.
