Men assault lady for alleged theft in boutique
Some Nigerians have taken to social media to demand justice for a yet-to-be-identified lady who was assaulted by four men for allegedly stealing from her boss.
A video of the incident which had gone viral on social media on Sunday showed about four men whipping the lady while she rolled on the ground in the boutique located opposite Tantalizers, Lagos Island.
PUNCH Metro learnt from a caption accompanying the video that the lady had allegedly stolen from her boss who owns a boutique.
The caption noted that the boss, in an attempt to punish her for the alleged theft, ordered some yet-to-be-identified men to whip her.
The actions in the video had generated outrage from Nigerians who are demanding that the police should wade in and ensure justice is served.
Reacting to the incident on Facebook, a user, Tijani Fatai, condemned the beating while stressing that such action should be looked into.
He said, “It Is with great distress that I bring to your attention a deeply troubling video involving a young woman who was accused by her employer of theft.
In the video, the lady is brutally beaten, molested, and stripped of her clothes—an inhumane treatment no one should ever endure, especially while striving to earn a living.
“This injustice is a gross violation of her dignity and human rights. This is an unacceptable pattern of behavior that demands immediate attention and action.”
Another user, Chi Agada, condemned the torture and urged employers to always apply legal principles in dealing with such matter rather than take laws into their hands.
Agada said, “Two wrongs can’t make a right, the employer will definitely regret this action, because the law will act against him/her.
“Some employers should begin to apply legal action when their employees commits any crime, instead taking laws into their hand.”
In another reaction, Funmilola Akinola, expressed fears that the lady could die as the act depicted jungle justice.
“This is just too much, what if the lady dies along the line? This Nigeria tire me oo, everyone is just doing whatever they like without the fear of the law.”
This is jungle justice,” Akinola wrote.
Another user, Friday Rewane, urged the police to invite those who may be involved in the act for questioning.
“This is totally barbaric. The Police should call all the persons involved in this shameful act for questioning.”
Meanwhile the Lagos State Police Command said it had commenced investigation into the incident.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a terse response to an inquiry by PUNCH Metro on Sunday night.
“It’s being done,” he said.
