The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti on Monday, January 13, announced an increase in the stipends paid to traditional leaders in the state.
Otti said the increase is a show of the state’s committment to institutionalize the pride and place of the traditional institutions towards promotion of cultural heritage as a people.
A statement issued by Okey Kanu, the state’s commissioner of information after the executive council meeting said the new stipend rate will range from N250,000 to N300,000 while there would be an additional N100,000 for members of the council of traditional rulers at the state level.
Kanu also stated that the same would apply to the traditional leaders at the local government level.
He further said that the Abia state government has put plans in place to rebase and update its 30-year development strategy.
He said, “The state economic team charged with this assignment will soon be inaugurated.”
He added that the plan has been updated to reflect the changes in prices of goods and services within the economy.
