Man arrested for allegedly killing father after taking “colorado” in Sapele

A 23-year-old man, Prince Nyerovho, has been arrested in Sapele, Delta State, for allegedly stabbing his 65-year-old father to death after consuming a synthetic drug known as “Colorado.”

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday in the Amukpe area, sending shockwaves through the local community.

According to family sources, Prince had a long-standing addiction to synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as “Spice,” which had led to repeated violent behavior. His drug use was said to have caused unpredictable outbursts, including a prior incident where he allegedly attempted to strangle his mother.

“This is not the first time Prince has exhibited violent behavior under the influence of drugs,” a family member revealed. “His addiction spiraled out of control, and his mother did everything she could to help, but the financial strain became too much.”

Prince’s mother had sought assistance from rehabilitation centers in Benin City, Edo State, and a mental health facility in Sapele, but resources eventually ran out.

On the day of the incident, after taking “Colorado,” Prince reportedly demanded N5,000 from his father. When his request was denied, he became enraged. His father attempted to avoid further conflict by locking himself in his room, but this only intensified Prince’s anger.

In a fit of rage, Prince allegedly broke down the door to his father’s room. His younger sister tried to intervene but was injured in the struggle. A neighbor recalled, “She did everything she could to stop him, but he wouldn’t listen. It was horrifying.”

Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene and found Prince’s father lying lifeless on the floor, having been fatally stabbed. His younger sister had raised the alarm, prompting the intervention of the community.

By the time the police arrived, Prince had been subdued by neighbors and handed over to the authorities.
