The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended eight universities across Nigeria from admitting new students into their law degree programmes.

The decision, announced on January 29, 2025, follows a directive from the Council of Legal Education, which suspended the Bachelor of Laws programme at these institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session.

JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin explained that, as a result of the suspension, the board will not approve admissions for candidates wishing to pursue law at these universities for the upcoming academic session.

The affected universities are located across various states, including Kwara State University, Bingham University, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Redeemers University, Western Delta University, Taraba State University, Arthur Jarvis University, and the Nigerian Police Academy.

Benjamin also clarified that the suspension at the Nigerian Police Academy would extend for two academic sessions, impacting both the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 periods.

The ban on registering for the law programme at the academy will continue into the following session, 2026/2027.
