Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed reports of a national grid collapse in 2025, clarifying that recent power disruptions were due to transmission line tripping rather than a system-wide failure. In a statement shared on its official X handle on Saturday, TCN reassured the public that the grid remained stable. It explained that a tripping incident on February 12 affected the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330-kilovolt (kV) transmission line, while the Benin-Egbin 330 kV line had already been taken offline for scheduled maintenance. This caused temporary outages in parts of Abuja, Lagos, and Osogbo. However, the company confirmed that power supply to affected areas had been fully restored, and other regions were not impacted.TCN further emphasized that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) operates under the oversight of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). It noted that only the National Control Centre System Operator or its designated backup, the National Supplementary Control Centre (SNCC), is authorized to issue official updates regarding the grid’s status. The company urged the public and media to rely solely on verified information from its Public Affairs Department to prevent misinformation about the power system.
