Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is facing mounting pressure to intervene in the escalating leadership crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The conflict began after Mudashiru Obasa was removed as speaker, with Mojisola Meranda elected as his replacement.
Tensions have risen sharply, with security operatives sealing off the speaker’s office and deploying police and task force officers around the assembly complex.
The assembly had also requested additional security from the Department of State Services (DSS) ahead of February 18, fearing unrest due to Obasa’s planned return.
In response to the growing crisis, Babatunde Bank-Anthony, an influential APC chieftain, has called on Governor Sanwo-Olu to step in.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Bank-Anthony stated that the governor, as the leader of Lagos, cannot ignore the situation.
His words: “I expect the governor, as well, to say something to this. He is the number one man in Lagos State.
“He cannot ignore what happened yesterday because that is the parliament that he reports to; that is the parliament that makes the law for the state he is governing. The governor should speak up about this issue to the right quarters.
“Twenty-six years of democracy in Lagos, Nigeria right? Do you want to keep sucking your mother’s breast at this age? Let us leave this man (Tinubu) alone, he has a bigger headache.
“If Obasa cannot come to the House as a member, let him resign after 20 years in the Assembly. Let him give somebody else a chance.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, had previously clarified that the governor was not involved in Obasa’s impeachment.
